Drive base
Mid-wheel drive makes the Pronto M41 incredibly manoeuvrable, able to turn on the spot. Combined with its narrow width, this makes the Pronto an ideal powered wheelchair for indoor use, where it can navigate around tight turns and through narrow spaces. The Pronto M41 does feature SureStep suspension giving it limited outdoor capabilities - ideal for navigating flat solid surfaces. However, it is not a dedicated outdoor wheelchair, and will not cope well with bumpy pavements, slopes or kerbs, meaning that those looking to use their powerchair extensively outdoors should consider an alternative model, such as the Jazzy Select 6.
Seating
There are two types of seating available on the Pronto M41. The "Cab" seat is a basic high-back captain's style seat, similar to that found on other chairs such as the Pride Jazzy Select 6. Available only in a 16 x 16 inch seat, the backrest can also be manually reclined via a lever on the seat. This comfortable, padded seat is ideal for those without any advanced seating needs and who are slender than average.
The other seating is the "Standard" one with a tension adjustable back, and solid seat base with cushion. The seat width can be adjusted from 17 - 19 inches, and the depth set to 16, 18 or 20 inches. This provides a more exact fit than the Cab seat, although not as precise as that found on a truly prescriptive powerchair. The firm seat base allows an alternative cushion to be fitted instead, if required. The Standard seat is slightly more expensive than the Cab seat.
Fully crash-tested, both versions of the Pronto M41 are suitable for occupied transportation in a suitably adapted vehicle, and come with tie-down points to enable this.
Our Verdict
The Pronto is ideal for those after a comfortable powerchair primarily for indoor use who are fine in a standard seat. We would recommend considering it alongside Quantum's Kozmo, which is an even more compact indoor powerchair with adjustable seating.
For those who have more advanced seating needs, a version of the Pronto M41 with Modulite seating is also available.
