We view the Invacare Action 3NG Comfort Wheelchair as a "halfway house" between a standard folding wheelchair like the regular Action 3NG and a rigid framed tilting Rea Azalea. It provides much more comfort than a standard folding chair but doesn't have the same weight to it as a full-blown tilt in space wheelchair, and is much easier to transport.
The Comfort comes as standard with:
Padded Passad backrest featuring in-built lateral support, or Laguna back supplied with separate trunk supports.
Mistral comfort cushion, which is amply padded.
Padded headrest.
30° reclining backrest.
Elevating leg rests.
This results in a seat you can sit in much of the day, which will help to maintain an upright posture, and lets you lie back in a reclined position to rest.
It doesn't have the ability to tilt the seat; something that is useful for those spending most the day in a wheelchair as that provides pressure relief, reduces slumping and aids hoisting - if that is required then Invacare's Rea Azalea would be a better option.
However, tilt in space chairs are heavy and have rigid frames, meaning you can't fold them up to go in a car. While the Action 3NG Comfort is heavier than a standard folding chair, it can still be folded up and lifted into a car, meaning it retains a good degree of transportability.
As with the Action 3 range, the Comfort can be fully configured with a wide array of options, allowing it to provide a perfect fit, the seating and functions you require, and also has a choice of frame colours. It can also be supplied as either a transit or self-propelled wheelchair.
Our Verdict
The Action 3NG Comfort is a relatively niche product, as most people requiring the level of comfort it requires will go for a tilt in space wheelchair instead. However, for those that need their wheelchair to remain transportable in a car but need outstanding comfort, it is a good choice, with the only alternative to consider being Karma's MVP 502.
