Seating
Both the width and depth of the Zippie Salsa M2 Mini's seat are adjustable from 12 inches to 16 inches, meaning that it can be configured to fit young children all the way up to adulthood. This means that the seating can be adjusted as your child grows, ensuring that the wheelchair won't need replacing due to your child outgrowing it.
For those with more specialist needs, a vast range of seating options are available with the Salsa, including comfort cushioning, backrests, headrests, legrests and lateral supports. Additionally, various powered postural additions can be fitted to the Salsa, including powered lift, powered tilt, powered recline and powered elevating leg rests.
Power base
Significantly narrower than its predecessor, the Zippie Salsa M, the Zippie Salsa M2 Mini is much easier for a child to manoeuvre as a result, also making it simpler to fit into wheelchair adapted vehicles. Mid-wheel drive further complements the manoeuvrability, allowing the powerchair to turn on the spot, while the simple to use controller is ideal for a younger wheelchair user and will be easy for them to master.
The Salsa M2 Mini is one of the best outdoor performers in our range, its suspension offering a smooth ride over uneven terrain, as well as featuring improved ground clearance. Anti-pitch technology eliminates the risk of pitching on slopes, keeping the wheelchair user safe on slopes of up to 8°. While some more basic mid-wheel drive powerchairs may struggle on uneven surfaces and ramps, the Salsa's all-wheel independent suspension allows it to negotiate them with ease. A range of 15.5 miles means that the Salsa should never be without power, even when tackling rough terrain. Offered as standard with 4 mph motors, the speed, acceleration and turning can be programmed lower if required.
The Zippie Salsa M2 Mini is also fully crash tested making it safe to use for occupied transport in a suitably adapted vehicle.
Our Verdict
The Zippie Salsa M2 Mini is a top of the range paediatric wheelchair that is equally at home both indoors and outdoors. The narrow width and adjustable seating set it apart from its competitors, and makes it an ideal long-term option for those needing a children's wheelchair.
We would also recommend considering Quantum's Edge 3 Stretto, which is the same width and has some more advanced seating options available, as well as paediatric seat sizes.
