Sunrise Medical Breezy Moonlite Wheelchair

 folds up easily for transport, and the half folding backrest and removable legrests reduce it to a compact size. It then weighs just 11.8 kg (transit) or 13.5 kg (self-propelled), making it easy to lift into a car for tarnsport. The lightweight aluminium frame helps to keep the weight down compared to traditional heavy steel wheelchairs often seen in hospitals.

Available in two seat sizes - 16 and 18 inches - the Moonlite will provide a good fit for most people of average sizes. It is available as either a transit version if being pushed, which benefits from attendant operated brakes on the handlebars, or self-propelled with large back wheels and handrims. This gives the wheelchair user the freedom to propel themselves, for example indoors, and push handles on the back allow them to still be pushed as well, when required. Anti-tips are standard on the self-propelled version, to ensure stability.

The Moonlite comes as standard with a lap belt and comfortably padded upholstery, including modern two-tone backrest upholstery.

The Breezy Moonlite is also fully crash-tested, allowing it to be used for occupied transport in a suitably adapted vehicle. This is rare for light wheelchairs, and can be crucial for hospital transport in an ambulance.

We picked the Moonlite for our hire fleet of lightweight manual wheelchairs, and it has served us well over the years chiefly because of its simplicity and durability. There are lighter wheelchairs available, such as Karma's
