iLevel seat riser
The standout feature of the Edge 2.0 is the iLevel seat raiser, which allows you to drive at walking pace (3.5 mph) while elevated up to 12 inches. As the name suggests, this allows you to drive at eye level - in contrast to most other powerchairs with powered lift, which are limited to crawling along at slow speeds. Being at eye level enhances social interactions, even when on the go. Faster actuators allow the full lift to be attained within 24 seconds, all at the press of a single switch.
Seating
The Edge 2.0 can be fitted with all the other powered options one would expect of a high-end powerchair, including 175° of shear-reduced recline - allowing you to lie flat when combined with powered elevating leg rests, and 50º of tilt to aid in pressure relief whilst maintaining centre of gravity shift. This is complemented by the TRU-Balance 3 Seating System, which features an amazing range of seat widths and depths, from 12 - 22 inches, while the more basic Synergy seating offers an affordable alternative for those without advanced seating needs.
Power base
Like its predecessor, the Edge 2.0 power base comes with mid-wheel drive, allowing it to turn on the spot with a turning radius of just 20.5 inches - making it incredibly manoeuvrable indoors compared to traditional rear-wheel drive chairs. ATX suspension at both the front and the rear ensures a stable and comfortable ride outside, and the 4-pole motors on the Q6 Edge 2.0 provide a 4 mph top speed, with the option to upgrade to 6 mph. A range of controls are available for the Edge 2.0 depending on need - we would recommend Quantum's advanced Q-Logic 3 system, pictured above, although R-Net controls are available too.
Style
The Q6 Edge 2.0, however, doesn't just provide comfort and performance - the Quantum range is known for its stylish looks, and the Edge 2.0 is no exception. Available with a large range of shroud colours as standard, the appearance can be customised according to your preferences.
Our Verdict
One of the primary appeals of the Quantum Q6 Edge 2.0 Powerchair is the iLevel function, so the powerchair is particularly suited to those wanting to drive at regular speed while elevated. It is also the most affordable powerchair with the option for lie-flat powered recline, ideal if you want to sleep in the chair. The Edge 2.0's nearest competitors are Sunrise Medical's Quickie Q500 M, Invacare's TDX SP2 NB, and Permobil's M3, which are worth trying out alongside the Edge 2.0.
While the successor Q6 Edge 3 has now been released, that is at a much higher price-point than the Edge 2.0, so for those not needing the advanced SRS suspension of the new Edge 3, the Edge 2.0 is still worth considering.
