An active wheelchair is much lighter than a conventional wheelchair, designed for efficient self-propelling by the occupant.

Our active wheelchair of choice is Ki Mobility's versatile 

. It is a lightweight, rigid-framed monotube wheelchair made from durable aircraft-grade 7000 series aluminium. While those new to active wheelchairs might initially think a folding chair is more transportable than a rigid framed one, the opposite is in fact true. Just fold the backrest down and pop the quick release wheels off, and your wheelchair is a compact size that can be lifted easily into your car, while also being much lighter than an equivalent folding-framed wheelchair.

You will find a rigid framed chair is therefore much easier to self-propel than a folding-framed one, which is why around 75% of active wheelchairs we sell are rigid framed ones.

While a hired active wheelchair can never quite replicate the "perfect fit" of a bespoke one built to your measurements, the highly adjustable nature of the Tsunami allows it to be matched as closely as possible to your size, needs and experience.

As part of the handover process when hiring one, our experienced specialists will spend the time with you adjusting the wheelchair to fit - we therefore require that you be present on handover to ensure we can do this.
