Product Profile: TGA Whill Model C Powerchair

Invalid Date

One of the most unique powerchairs to grace the powerchair market, TGA’s WHILL model C powerchair challenges the very perception of what a powerchair can and should be. Its innovative, artistic design takes a step away from the traditional powerchair ‘look’. This ultra-lightweight powerchair offers a new take on wheelchair aesthetic while still providing the fundamentals needed to provide its user with comfort and freedom.

The first thing which grabs your attention with the Whill Model C is the look. Like nothing on the market, aesthetic has been considered when this was designed, taking a large, artistic, step away from the ‘usual’ wheelchair look. With a minimalistic approach taken by designers in Japan, it will turn heads for all the right reasons. For those who feel uncomfortable with the look of general powerchairs on the market, this is the perfect alternative.

This focus on looks does not mean that other areas have sacrificed. Those who need something which can fit into the boot of a car will appreciate the ease of which the Whill Model C dismantles. It comes apart into three easy to lift pieces which have been designed to fit into a standard sized car boot. The heaviest part is the rear of the chair, which weighs 20kg. However, if you are looking for something which is fast and has a large range, this may not be the chair for you, it has a top speed of 4mph and a range of 10 miles from a single charge.

The short wheelbase and narrow frame mean the Whill Model C is ideal for managing small spaces and tight turns, so even those using it around a small flat will not have a problem, this is assisted by the unique omni-wheel system, which helps to guide the front wheels in a smoother, sideward motion, allowing the chair to turn almost on the spot which creates a turning circle of just 76cm.

Its simplicity and minimalistic control system, which comprises of a small series of buttons on one side, and a basic joystick on the other, means that this chair is suitable for any level of powerchair user, as it doesn’t make using and controlling the chair confusing.
