We attended Quantum's exclusive product launch in late September, and got an early look at the new Kozmo powered wheelchair. This interesting little powered wheelchair is rather different from anything else on the market, so we've chosen to profile it this week.
The first thing to note is that the Kozmo is super-compact - it uses the same base as the popular Go Chair, and its tiny turning circle is great for getting around restricted spaces indoors. It's not really designed to use outdoors, except on very flat, solid paved surfaces (so not on your average pavements - they're too bumpy!). However, it can be dismantled to transport in your car - which makes it ideal for bringing along to shopping centres, schools and so on.
On that note, the seating is available in paediatric sizes - this really is an ideal powered wheelchair for children, particularly around school environments. The seating is much more advanced than the basic "one size fits all" seat on the Go Chair, and can be set up to your child's size (and adjusted as they grow), with a range of positioning options too.
That's not to say the Kozmo is for children only - average sized adults will appreciate the seat, although those above about 15 stone or who are particularly tall will find it too small for them.
You can customise the looks of your Kozmo with a range of colour panels (it doesn't have to be pink), and it's a smart-looking modern wheelchair. All-in-all, we think it's a neat little powered wheelchair that's a step above your basic indoor models without breaking the bank.
